Are you in a complete career funk?

Create a path to your ideal career

I always thought that if I went to college, got a degree (and maybe an advanced degree) and worked hard, that I would earn not only a good income, but the flexibility and benefits that come to honest people. I have been checking all the boxes of success and accomplishment throughout my life. I finally landed a job that I mostly enjoyed (at least in the beginning). I felt successful and proud, especially when I first landed this position. Then I found myself wondering what all the fuss is about.

The work became routine and stale. I was constantly asking myself “What do I actually want in life? Why didn’t my path thus far get me there? Was this my dream originally?” I struggled because I didn’t feel fulfilled. I felt the opposite, I felt frustrated and stuck. Some days I felt angry, others just disappointed. I was scared to leave my position because it had offered me the stability to afford my lifestyle, which I loved. I had to pay my bills and had been at the crossroads of career transition before. I knew a career change would be challenging and wouldn’t solve all my problems. I was hesitant to make such a big change, but I knew that I couldn’t go on like this forever. I had gotten good at my job and had the opportunity to take a promotion, it seemed silly to pursue something new.

But something had to change! I wasn’t entirely sure what, but decided that if I didn’t take the leap sooner rather than later, then change might have never come. I decided that asking the hard questions and creating my own path was imperative and that has made all the difference.

Your Ideal Career Path is Possible

As I plunged into another career transition, I floundered. I didn’t have much direction. I tried to figure out everything out on my own. I was lucky enough to have read a lot of literature on career change and finding your passions. So I followed my enthusiasm to explore potential new career options. But it wasn’t easy and there was a lot of trial and error.

It took a lot of time and energy and a lot of times I knew I was barking up the wrong tree. Then I came across a coaching program and everything changed. Instead of guessing my way forward, I had expert guides by my side showing me what worked and what didn’t. I simply had to follow their lead to lay the ground work for my own ideas and career choices. It was a revelation to have so much support and see that change is possible, building a life you love is possible.

Another huge benefit was that I was no longer alone. I didn’t have to do the work and go through this transition all by myself never knowing if I was on the right path. With my coaches, I always had someone as a sounding board. I could make decisions clearly and confidently. I could implement new ideas with support. Having a coach by my side changed everything and it’s the reason I became a coach myself.

After moving again (for the hundredth time) and transitioning into coaching, I knew I wanted to help others find the courage to find meaningful work. I wanted to help others design a life that gives them purpose and fills them with enthusiasm. Working with a coach transformed my life and my career (which is my coaching business).

In my coaching program, we will take an inventory of your current life and work. We will get clarity on where you are now and what you want to create. We will explore opportunities you have already considered while also dreaming up new possibilities. We will get creative and have fun designing your ideal life! Then we will create a roadmap that facilitates the changes you are looking to make, one step at a time.

Imagine Having an Awesome Career

Imagine getting up in the morning, leaping out of bed, ready to take on the day. Imagine waking up, knowing what it is that you are called to do. Work would never be the same because you would be pulled to it rather than pushed to a meaningless 9-5. And the best part is that it doesn’t stop there. Everything changes when you have a purpose and when it’s realized in your day to day life. You feel fulfilled and hopeful. You look forward for what is to come. Life is lived on another level when you have a purpose, a calling. And it is waiting for you. You simply need someone to help guide you to it.

How I Created a Purpose-Filled Career

Once upon a time, I was a serial job hopper. I’ve been working since I was 14 years old and have held what feels like every job under the sun. And while I loved working because it gave me a sense of structure and independence, I would inevitably find myself bored, exhausted, and depressed. I always ended up feeling stuck. Over the years I became increasingly obsessed with self help authors, artists, and entrepreneurs. What do all of these people have in common? They have a dream, a purpose, and have incorporated it into their career. They find meaning in their struggle, they know they have a gift to share, and they won’t give up until they figure out how to share it with the world. These stories inspired me to keep doing the work of self discovery.

I read books on job hunting, career building and strength finding. I attended workshops with my favorite authors and speakers. I got my bachelors degree in Human Resources and Painting. Once I decided to become a coach, I attended two different coaching programs that both had me go through the work that I do with others and helped me build a coaching business. I graduated from the Institute of Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC) in 2017 and have been coaching ever since.

Since my passions include learning, I continue to attend conferences focused on passion projects, designing a good life, building businesses, and psychology. One of my mantras in life is “be the change you wish to see in the world.” Now that I am a mom, I feel this stronger than ever. I am always looking for ways I can embody and model behavior of a life well lived.

That is the work that I do for myself, with my clients, and for my daughter.

Real Progress in Life

Maggie Ronan, San Francisco

“I worked with Lara as a coaching client during a time of transition in my life, and it so happened that she was in the midst of a great transition of her own, so I really felt comfortable being open about my uncertainty about what I was doing with myself! I believe Lara is naturally inclined to be a coach because of her brilliant creativity, supportiveness, and sense of adventure (which helped reinforce that my own dreams are possible). These dynamite personality traits plus the array of coaching tools and practices she knows made for meaty sessions that helped me make real progress on identifying what wasn’t working in my life and focusing on where I want to go that *does* work. Thank you Lara!!”
